DNA strand with assembly instructions, anatomical model

This model shows DNA in a simplified way, so that you can quickly identify the molecules it is made of.

The model weighs approximately 0.3 kg and the dimensions are 24 x 11 x 11 cm.

Assembly instructions are included and the model is supplied with a stand.

Chemically speaking the model shows the molecules that make up DNA. These molecules are nucleotides, which consist of 3 parts: A nitrogenous base, a pentose (deoxyribose molecule) and a phosphate group.

The nitrogenous bases occur in 4 variants in DNA (and they are abbreviated A,T,C,G).

On the model, all these molecules are shown in different colors and shapes.

Overall, the model consists of:

• 6 Adenine bases (A) in blue
• 6 Thymine bases (T) in orange
• 6 Cytosine bases (C) in yellow
• 6 Guanine bases (G) in green
• 24 Deoxyribose molecules in red
• 24 Phosphate groups in purple

When the model is assembled, both colors and shape make it easy to identify the individual molecules in the double helix. Furthermore, the model illustrates hydrogen bonds between the bases as well as the small and large "grooves".
