Description
The poster explains cholesterol and illustrates the structure and classification of lipoproteins, i.e. particles consisting of both fat molecules and proteins. These particles transport cholesterol around the body, and the transport is also illustrated.
Sources of cholesterol (from food and the body itself) are reviewed and the important sites of storage are shown. Finally, the consequence of elevated cholesterol - atherosclerosis (arteriosclerosis) is illustrated as, among other things, can lead to serious heart disease.
