Educational skull with cervical vertebrae, 14 parts

Description

This detailed skull model is made in a particularly high quality. It comes with educationally colored bones which can be easily separated as well as the tongue bone and all the cervical vertebrae (cervical spine).

The model is mainly bought by Cranio-Sacral Therapists.

The model is cast according to instructions from Prof. JW Rohen, MD, Department of Anatomy, University of Erlangen. It is produced in SOMSO plastic by the manufacturer SOMSO, which is world-renowned for very high quality. This means quality materials, a sense of accuracy and longevity.

The model weighs approximately 1.2 kg and is cast in a size that corresponds to an adult person. It can be separated into 14 parts (excluding the bones in the skull) which can be easily taken apart because they are connected via robust and practical nylon pins "in rubber caps". The joints thus resemble roughened cranial sutures. Furthermore, the entire model is delivered on a removable stand, where the skull rests on a metal holder, which is attached to a green base at the bottom.

Anatomically speaking

Anatomically, the human skull can be divided into 2 parts, and the skull model therefore shows the following:

1) The braincase (neurocranium), which is intended to enclose the brain and the hearing-equilibrium organ

2) The facial skeleton (viscerocranium) which surrounds the nasal cavity and forms the tooth-bearing framework around the oral cavity. The 32 teeth are also included

The braincase consists of 8 bones. There are 4 unpaired (the frontal, sphenoid, sphenoid and occipital bones) and 2 paired (the occipital and temporal bones). All these bones as well as sutures can be identified on the skull model.

The facial skeleton includes 6 paired bones (the maxilla, palatine, cheekbone, nasal bone, lacrimal bone, and lower conchbone) and 3 unpaired bones called the mandible, the ploughshare, and the zygomatic bone (some do not count the zygomatic bone as part of the facial skeleton). All these bones and sutures can also be identified on the skull model.

On this model, the bones of the skull are painted in muted colors and can be separated into 14 parts. Paired bones are seen in the same color.

The model includes the hyoid bone and the 7 cervical vertebrae (including the intervertebral discs).

The human skull contains many holes and channels containing vessels and nerves. Overall, there are connections between the braincase and the neck, to and from the eye socket, to and from the pterygo-palatine fossa and to and from the nasal cavity.

On this skull model, all holes and canals are visible. Overall, the bone quality is extremely good, which is why, for example, knots and depressions in the bone tissue can be seen very clearly. The scope of "osseous landmarks" also includes the smallest details.

Compared to cheaper skull models in our range, it also feels more real. You can feel the authenticity when you hold the bones or the whole skull at the same time and feel the weight.

Motorically

In terms of movement, the model includes many joints because it shows the cervical spine. Despite this, the model is not flexible.

The lower jaw bone ("mandible") is held in place via two plastic pins in the jaw joints. Therefore, it can only be raised and lowered slightly. On the other hand, it can be easily dismantled completely.

It is not at all possible to demonstrate movements in the upper and lower cervical joints (or in the cervical spine as a whole).

Clinically

Clinically, the skull model can be used to understand specific skull deformities such as craniosynostosis.

The model is also ideal for understanding the individual skull bones and their connections, as well as diseases, disorders and disorders in this part of the skeleton.
