5-year-old child's spine, anatomical model

This unique model shows a lifelike representation of the spine of a 5-year-old child. The model is cast in the so-called BONElike material, which is lightweight and comes very close to resembling real bones.

The spine model is movable and includes the occipitalis, pelvis and sacrum with coccyx. In the spinal canal, the spinal cord and cauda equina as well as the spinal nerves are represented in flexible material.

Special characteristics of the development of the spine can be seen in the fact that the vertebral spines are not fully developed. The fusion of the individual vertebrae in the sacrum is not complete, as this usually does not occur until the age of 15. The acetabulum is Y-shaped because the ischium (seat bone), pubis (pubic bone) and ilium (hip bone/sacrum bone) are not fused, which does not occur until the age of 14-16.
